After setting up HumanPlaylistr in August 2020 at the height of the pandemic, I’ve run it part-time around my day job. I absolutely love playlisting and creating atmospheres for people. I’ve made some truly excellent contacts in the last 2 years which I wish to retain. My love for music remains undiminished and my excitement about crossing the divide between human-curated music and artificial intelligence is still a subject I’m passionate about.
But it’s never generated enough income to be sustainable as a sole trader. It demands time commitments during the day which I just haven’t had. Networks need to be built, pilots completed, systems and deployments tested and happy customers on record.
I’m returning HumanPlaylistr to it’s roots; a hobby I’m passionate about. I’ll still be playlisting, posting on social media, creating new material. But without the time pressures and financial worries. You see, I’m moving to a much more involved full-time job and I have to prioritise it for now. You can still request playlists, ask for advice, submit tracks and generally chat with me about playlisting. I’ll still be posting what I think is interesting.
But it can’t be a business right now.
The site will stay active and, as above, there will still be new material. However, unless it’s very definitely weekend work and doesn’t clash with any work weekend commitments (and my life – I have a family! And I need to rest!) I’ll just be pottering on.
The site won’t be dead, the social media channels will get occasional updates, the Friday Triple Play will continue and I’d still like to do a podcast. I’m attending a trade event some time in October to see what’s happening in the innovation space in hospitality.
It’s no longer my job though.
I’ve had a blast, I’ll keep having a blast but within my own means.
Keep listening, keep following and keep making music wherever you are. Music is the lifeblood of human nature. Life is a journey and music both inspires and is inspired by it.
Chris
