Modern busy restaurants have unique requirements. As an all-day dining venue they need to cover the transition from brunch to evening cocktails through lunch, afternoon coffee, early evening meals, late dinners and drinks.
The playlist needs to be open to all guests and whilst feeling fresh and upbeat should not be too intrusive or too loud. The mood should be uplifting and entertaining which is why I’ve picked deep house as a core theme, but starts at 16:00 with more light and chilled tracks, moving through family friendly times 17:00 and 18:00, with 19:00 to 20:00 providing a more energetic mood for the lights to go a bit lower and for the cocktail shakers to appear.
I analysed this playlist with a music tagging system Cyanite and from the data analysis I have built a gradual change of mood and trend across the playlist. I will write a blog post soon (this page last updated 8 March 2022) but the upshot is that I can adapt a playlist to mood, vibe, turnover times with peaks and troughs and validate that through the use of sophisticated analysis. There is a video below of this mood analysis.

4pm to 8pm in a modern busy restaurant with informal and brisk service. The playlist starts lighter as a transition from the afternoon, through family mealtimes supporting chatter, finishing with a jumping off point for cocktails.
